Advanced Ultrasound Technology for Skin Tightening and Collagen Renewal

Ultherapy is one of the latest developments in skin tightening and rejuvenation, using ultrasound waves to tighten existing muscles and collagen strands to firm and smooth, while stimulating the body to produce more natural collagen.

How Does Ultherapy Work?

Ultherapy is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment for skin tightening of the brows, neck, jawline, and upper chest (décolletage). The procedure is particularly effective, as it targets deeper layers of skin where natural collagen is produced. The ultrasound waves impact the collagen fibers in the area, heating the tissue to stimulate collagen production. As your skin begins to produce higher levels of collagen, it becomes firmer, tighter, and more youthful in appearance.

Does Ultherapy Have Side Effects?

Typical side effects include minor flushing, with the redness diminishing within a few hours. Some patients report slight swelling, a tingling sensation, or skin that feels tender when touched. It is not uncommon to experience minor bruising in some areas. Other very rare side effects are possible, and it is important that any Ultherapy treatment is delivered by a highly-skilled professional, rather than in a non-medical spa, so the treatment is correctly applied.

Is Ultherapy Painful?

You will feel the heating effect of the procedure, but the treatment is typically very well tolerated without any anesthetic. If you have a low threshold for pain, topical anesthetic can be applied so you are more comfortable during treatment.

How Long Will It Take For New Collagen To Grow After An Ultherapy Treatment?

The threads used in this procedure are absorbable sutures made of biodegradable materials. Inserted into the skin, they instantly lift and tighten facial areas with volume loss, such as the cheeks, jowls, lips, and neck. They also stimulate collagen production in the areas where placed.

Tiny cones are attached to the fine sutures used in a thread lift procedure. These attachments lift and tighten the skin from underneath and cause mild inflammation to stimulate natural collagen growth over time.

How Many Ultherapy Treatments Will I Need?

Many patients who come to Cara Plastic Surgery & Laser Center require only one Ultherapy treatment. The number of treatments you will need is based upon your age, skin quality, and the degree of laxity or crêpey skin. Some older patients with more extensive skin laxity may require up to three treatments. Only a personal evaluation of your skin can fully determine how many treatments will be needed in your case. Ultherapy is an appropriate alternative to facelift surgery for those between 40 and 60 years of age who notice skin laxity in the face, neck, chest, or other body areas.
