The Science Behind Microneedling

Microneedling works by creating brand-new, collagen-rich tissue, which reduces the appearance of skin problems and promotes firmer, smoother, healthier, more youthful-looking skin. A medical-grade device will be used to make tiny punctures into the skin using micro-needles. With every puncture, your body will send in a “repair team” to heal the skin and replace the “injuries” with brand-new tissues and blood vessels.

The result is improved, beautiful new skin. Another benefit of microneedling is that the procedure opens up your pores, helping skincare products to do become even more useful because they are able to reach more deeply into the skin and do their job more efficiently. The addition of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can even further enhance results.

Microneedling Treatments: What to Expect

On the day of your microneedling treatment, we will cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing anesthetic. Once your skin is properly numbed, the microneedling device will be passed over your skin multiple times, creating tiny holes as it moves. The discomfort during this process will depend on your personal pain tolerance, but we can adjust the needle depth if you are ever uncomfortable. The actual microneedling takes about 15-20 minutes. When the micro-needles have finished doing their work, soothing nutrients and serums will be applied to your skin. For the best results, a series of microneedling treatments will be required.

After Microneedling

Your skin may have pinpoint bleeding, redness, and some scratches after treatment. This can last 1-2 days. Other than this, however, there are no side effects. You should not use any products on your face for the rest of the day, and avoid UV exposure, any kind of heat, and exfoliating for 48 hours. Early results will be visible 2-4 weeks following your procedure, with final results from the new collagen at six months.
