Lower Eyelid Surgery Procedure Details

Lower eyelid surgery in Los Angeles is performed with the patient under local anesthesia, sometimes with sedation. Your surgeon will place an incision directly below the lower lash line to remove or reposition excess fat and remove excess skin of the lower eyelid.

Alternatively, if no excess skin is removed, the incision may be placed on the inside of the lower eyelid. Surgical incisions may be closed with sutures or skin glue. Laser treatments or a chemical peel may also be recommended to reduce discoloration of the lower lids.

Transconjunctival eyelid surgery (or “scarless lower eyelid surgery”) is a safe, effective procedure with minimal complications. It uses an incision made in the lower lid conjunctiva which avoids an external incision through the skin. There is no skin incision, no skin scar, and subsequently no risk for eyelid retraction and less eyelid malposition postoperatively. The procedure also offers preservation of the eye shape and a shorter recovery time. Scarless lower blepharoplasty is particularly useful for:
